You walk into the office, open up an assigned PR and see it’s 2000 lines long with a 1000 word PR description. Nowadays this screams low quality vibe-coded slop, but in 2024 this would have represented an impressive piece of work.
Pre-LLMs a decent heuristic on the effort put into a piece of work, and therefore a reasonable effort for you to put into reviewing the piece of work, was simply how long it was. Did it have thorough descriptions, background, context, answers to expected reviewer questions, etc.
Unfortunately post-LLMs this heuristic no longer works. LLMs are able to output increasingly convoluted and elaborate prose that is difficult to ascertain if it’s saying anything of value!
We need to update our quality bias towards medium or shorter length pieces of work as those provide a higher indication that the creator was not a meat proxy. Instead the author took the time and effort to corral the LLMs output into their desired human digestible vision.
